SIGNS OF TRAFFICKING

They are not allowed to be alone. Someone always speaking on their behalf

Cannot produce a valid ID or has a fake ID 

Rarely smiles. Sleep deprived

Will not make eye contact. Appears timid, scared or nervous

Appears malnourished with little to no access to basic medical and dental care. Denied food and water

Always in the company of an adult that appears to be controlling. Not in a familial relationship

Has excessive cash, jewelry or other expensive materials. Lack of personal possessions

Child is always escorted when going any place, hotels, rental houses, restaurants, etc.

They state that they are older than 18 but look much younger

Discrepancies in reported age and behavior

Tattoos or branding indicates ownership by a pimp

Wears provocative clothing normally seen in the sex industry. Wears excessive makeup

Inappropriately dressed for the climate such as covering themselves up despite warm weather

Carrying extra clothes in a large handbag or backpack

Exhibits fear, anxiety, submission, depression

Signs of physical and sexual abuse, bruises, cuts, burns. Disorientation or confusion

Seen at places inappropriate for children of all ages. Knows more than they should about sex and sex acts

Will have numerous inconsistencies in their stories. Appears to be coached on what to say

Appears to be disconnected from friends, family, school and places of worship

Has stopped attending school or has history of truancy

Sudden and dramatic changes in behavior. Threatens to run away
